The Ball-Chatham CUSD #5 strives for excellence in education through curricular and extracurricular offerings. High state assessment results are one measure of the success of a team of highly effective educators, students, parents and community. Staff members regularly align curriculum and review materials and resources. Recently, the district hired external consulting firm Gretchen Courtney and Associates, Ltd. to conduct a literacy audit. The audit examined five critical components—instruction, materials, struggling learner support, Administrative support and assessment. The audit results contained detailed performance ratings and precise recommendations. The district is now implementing the recommendations in an effort to provide the foundation for systemic, informed, data-driven results. Ongoing Professional development in the area of literacy is the focus for the district’s improvement plan over the next two years. A 50+ member literacy cadre is being trained as trainers for the next steps of professional development delivery. |
